Fabian Müller is one of the
leading Swiss composers of his generation. His works are performed internationally by renowned orchestras and
ensembles. His catalogue comprises more
than twenty orchestral works, many chamber music works and one full-length
stage work. Being acutely interested in
ethnomusicology, he spent ten years preparing the publication of a ten-volume
anthology of Swiss folk music, featuring over 10,000 tunes, and, not
surprisingly, the folk elements are evident in his music and in this Suite in particular. While the cello version of the Suite has been extensively performed and recorded by the
composition's dedicatee, cellist Pi-Chin Chien, the viola version is being
premiered in today's performance. With
regard to this lively and brisk piece, Müller wrote: "It was important to me to
write a work that would be, above all, fun to play." Viacheslav Dinerchtein
