Almeria, from Suite Iberia Book II          Isaac Albéniz

The suite Iberia, written between December 1905 and January 1909, represents the fulfillment of an aim that had inspired the career of Isaac Albéniz: a desire to create, in his own words, "Spanish music with a universal accent". The twelve pieces, spread between four books, represent a grand tour of Spain.

"Almeria" is the capital of a province in the southeast region of the country along the Mediterranean.  The meter oscillates between 6/8 and 3/4 giving the piece its dance flavor.      Pia Bose
