Biography

Violist Amelia Hollander Ames is the founder and artistic director of Con Vivo Music, which presents free chamber music, at the highest level, in her hometown of Jersey City. Since its inaugural season, five years ago, CVM has received grants from Meet the Composer, American Music Center, the Virgil Thomson Foundation, and the Hudson County Department of Cultural Affairs. Amelia conducts the Inter-School Orchestra of NY's Trinity-Florentine Orchestra, and is on faculty at New Jersey City University and the Third Street Music School Settlement. She has twice been a featured performer at the N.Y. Viola Society, including a collaboration with British violist Garth Knox in 2009. She was violist of the Israel Contemporary String Quartet (ICSQ) and the Tel Aviv Soloists Ensemble, from 2004-2007. During her time in Israel, she was featured on tv, radio, and in cover stories in Klassik Magazine and the Jerusalem Post. She has toured Europe and Asia with the Verbier Festival Orchestra. Other festivals include Prussia Cove, Schleswig-Holstein, Kneisel Hall, and the Singapore Arts Festival. A graduate of the New England Conservatory (M.M.) and the Eastman School (B.M.), Amelia has recorded for the Naive, Nonesuch and Tzadik labels.
