Biography

Noted by the New York Times for giving "the proceedings an invaluable central thread of integrity and stylishness," violinist Ariana Kim made her New York recital debut at Carnegie's Weill Hall in March 2008 as the recipient of a prestigious Artists International Award, and is now a violin professor at the University of Indianapolis.  She has made extensive solo and collaborative appearances with various orchestras and ensembles throughout the United States, Asia, and Europe.

An avid chamber musician of both the contemporary and traditional literature, Ms. Kim marks her seventh season as a member of the New York new music ensemble Ne(x)tworks, with whom she improvises, performs, composes, and records.  Their debut album of Earle Brown chamber works was released on Mode Records in April 2007.   She also marks her sixth season with The Knights, an imaginative New York-based flux ensemble who completed a recording of American works featuring Copland, Ives, and Dvorak for SONY Classical Records in March of 2009.  Currently in her eighth season with the Chamber Music Society of Minnesota, recent collaborations have included performances with Leon Fleisher, Robert Mann, Fred Sherry, and Charles Neidich.

During her summers, Ms. Kim has performed in South Korea, Italy, France, Spain, and South Africa, and has participated in such festivals as Orford, Yellow Barn, and the Ravinia Festivals's Steans Institute.  Ms. Kim recently received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Juilliard under the tutelage of Robert Mann.
