Benjamin Baker, Violin

Biography

Born in 1990 in New Zealand, Benjamin studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal College of Music where he was awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Rose Bowl.

Over the last year Benjamin has given recitals throughout Europe including Wigmore Hall, The Sage Gateshead, Pedrera Hall Barcelona, St. John’s Smith Square, the Pärnu, Aegean Arts, Cheltenham, Northern Chords, East Neuk & Buxton Festivals, and appeared as soloist with the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company.   In 2015 Benjamin released his first CD for Champs Hill Records

Engagements during 2015/2016 include a performance  of the Tchaikovsky Concerto with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Dvorak Concerto with the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese, L'Aquila and Beethoven Concerto with Sinfonia Cymru.   Concert highlights include recitals at Wigmore Hall, Saffron Hall, Royal Welsh College of Music, the Steirisches Kammermusikfestival and Salisbury Festival.  Further afield he tours New Zealand under the auspices of the Royal Over-Seas League and appears as soloist with the Maui Pops Orchestra in Hawai and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

In 2013 Benjamin won 1st Prize in the WIndsor Festival International Competition and was selected by Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT).   He plays on a Tononi violin (1709) on generous loan.
