Biography

The Brooklyn Art Song Society is proud to announce it's 2010-2011 season. This is the inaugural season of what is sure to be a new and exciting voice in the New York Classical music scene. Pianist Michael Brofman is Artistic Director and noted Brooklyn Composer and Pianist Michael Rose is the General Director.
The Brooklyn Art Song Society is a collective of singers and pianists who share a love for the vast repertoire of poetry set to music. It will present concerts of ambitious size and scope in order to give its audience a unique and memorable experience. Established artists like Beth Levin, Robert Osborne, and Paul Sperry will join up-and-comers like pianists Michael Brofman, David Friend and Miori Sugiyama and Baritones Kyle Oliver and David Williams (to name just a few).
The Brooklyn Art Song Society's first concert will be Hugo Wolf's masterpiece the Italian Songbook in its entirety. There will be two performances: Friday October 29th, 7PM at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and Sunday November 21st, 4PM at the Westbeth Common Room. This is part one of the Hugo Wolf Project, a survey of all the major works of the Austrian master over several years. On Friday February 4th at the Brooklyn Conservatory at 7 PM and 7 PM on Saturday March 19 at the Tenri Cultural Center BASS will have the first of its new music series In Context in which song by living composers are performed side by side with standard repertoire in such a way that new light is shed on both. This year's featured composer is Tom Cipullo. His songs will be paired with masterpieces by Robert Schumann. This concert will also feature the New York premiere of Cipullo's song cycle Singing, written for and performed by acclaimed tenor Paul Sperry. BASS's Spring concert will be the first of its Masterworks series in which complete or representative outputs of a composer are presented. This year focus will be the complete songs of Henri Duparc. Performances will be at the Brooklyn Conservatory Friday May 6th at 7PM and Sunday May 15th at 6PM at the Renee Weiler Concert Hall.
