Biography

Christian Parent completed his musical training in his native city of Liège in Belgium, where he graduated with great distinction from the Conservatoire Royal de musique de Liège. As a student of André Dumortier’s, he garnered a number of prizes and awards at prestigious competitions throughout Europe, including a prize at the Leeds Competition in England, an honorary diploma at the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, and a place as a finalist at the Concorso Alessandro Casagrande in Italy. After immigrating to Canada, Parent fine tuned his art with Irving Heller. In Canada and throughout Europe, Christian Parent appears regularly in recital and in concert with various orchestras, in performances that have been broadcast over both radio and television, and for audiences that rarely fail to reward his performances with long ovations. His musical sensibility shines through a spontaneous style and astonishing virtuosity which reveal a unique tone married to a faithfulness to keyboard music from Bach to the present. Recording is also a daily part of Christian Parent’s career. As the owner of a recording studio, a veritable arena for artistic creation, this pianist is able to record his interpretations of masterworks for the piano, as well as his own compositions, at his own pace and in the flow of his own inspiration. A new CD dedicated to Beethoven will be released at the beginning of 2012. Christian Parent was teaching piano at the Université de Montréal’s faculty of music and at the École de musique Vincent-d’Indy at the college level until 2010. He is currently devoting his entire time to his musical career as a concert pianist and a composer. He also gives masterclasses at various institutions and serves as a jury member for a number of competitions.
