Biography

Described by the American Record Guide as a pianist
whose playing “was as smooth as velvet,” Mr. Shimoni’s engagements in the
2009-2010 season include performances in New York’s Zankel Hall and Symphony
Space, on Stanford University’s Lively Arts Series, at the Barns at Wolf Trap,
and in recital for the Five Boroughs Music Festival.

Mr. Shimoni is the first-prize winner of the National
Federation of Music Clubs’ Young Artist Auditions, Beethoven Sonata
Competition, Five Towns Music and Art Competition, and Simone Belsky
Competition.  In previous seasons
he has appeared in recital in New York’s Weill Recital Hall, Alice Tully Hall,
92nd St. Y, and Museum of Modern Art. He has been a guest artist at
the Chautauqua, Brevard, Moab, Foothills, and Rockport music festivals, and his
performances have been broadcast on radio stations WGBH-Boston, WFMT-Chicago,
and WQXR-New York.

Sought after for his skills as a collaborator, Mr.
Shimoni has worked with the Jupiter String Quartet, New York Festival of Song,
Southeastern Festival of Song, and Toronto Dance Theatre.  He frequently accompanies singers under
such auspices as the Juilliard School’s Alice Tully Hall Vocal Debut Recital,
the Marilyn Horne Foundation, Concert Artists Guild, Caramoor Center for Music
and the Arts, Dallas Museum of Art, Rockefeller University’s Tri-Institutional
Recital Series, and the Artist Series of Sarasota.  He has also completed fifteen educational and outreach tours
throughout the United States in affiliation with the Piatigorsky Foundation.

Born in Chapel Hill, NC, Mr. Shimoni attended the North Carolina School
of the Arts during high school and earned a B.A. from Swarthmore College.  He subsequently received the Vladimir
Horowitz Scholarship to study at the Juilliard School, where he obtained
masters degrees in both solo and collaborative performance. His principal
teachers have been Yoheved Kaplinsky, Robert McDonald, Marc Durand, Brian
Zeger, Edna Golandsky, and Ilya Itin. In addition to performing and teaching,
Mr. Shimoni is currently completing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano
performance at The Graduate Center of the City University of New York.
