Biography

A conductor of "unerring, warm-toned refinement, revealing judicious glimmers of power," Devorah Cheverino has participated in over 200 concerts during her 11 years of experience. Devorah captured worldwide attention in September 2001 when she won the Gold Medal at the First International Conducting Competition in Florence, Italy. With this victory, Devorah became the first woman to win a gold medal in an Italian conducting competition. Devorah is a recipient of the 2004-2007 Fulbright Congressional Grant for Conducting to work with Zubin Mehta. “Devorah Cheverino is a promising young conductor, intelligent, serious with innate musicality. She is on her way to a successful career.” - Zubin Mehta From 2004 Devorah works together with Mehta in numerous operas, concerts and tours in many cities around Europe such as Firenze, Roma, Milano, Valencia, Madrid, Luzern and internationally in Japan and Israel con Il Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, e Orchestra Palau de les Arts. Devorah works extensively as a guest conductor world wide with the Cape Philharmonic, South Africa, Martinnu Philharmonic, Czech Republic, Aukland Philharmonic, New Zealand, Varna Philharmonic and Plevin Philharmonic, Bulgaria, Palau de les Arts Valencia, Spain, I Solisti Fiorentini, Itlay, Soloists of Vienna Philharmonic , Austria, Los Angeles Mozart Orchestra, Asia America Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic Honors Orchestra, Pacific Symphony Youth Orchestra, and Gulf Coast Symphony, USA. Devorah has also assisted for the Berlin Philharmonic with Sir Simon Rattle and the Mozart Orchestra with Claudio Abbado in Bologna. She has served as faculty and conductor for the Accademia Dell'Arte, International School of Florence, Pretoria Opera Festival and the Florence Opera Festival. Cheverino received her Master's Degree in conducting from the University of Hartford and her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Southern California. Her teachers have included Mehli Mehta, John Barnett, Welser-Möst and Erwin Acel at the Hochschule fur Musik in Vienna. Born in South Africa, Devorah resides in Florence realizing her life-long dream to live and make music in Italy. She is dedicated to collaborating with eminent composers and musicians and is known for her symphonic and opera repertoire. She has several recordings on compact disc.
