Douglas Reed, Organ

Biography

Douglas Reed is a performer, teacher, church musician, and recording artist. He has performed in <?xml:namespace prefix =" st1" ns =" "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"" />Europe, the Far East, and for many educational institutions and chapters of the American Guild of Organists throughout the United States. His performances have been broadcast on the PIPEDREAMS program and Radio Belgium. <?xml:namespace prefix =" o" ns =" "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"" />

Dr. Reed performs as organist and harpsichordist on an ARKAY CD, William Albright: Music for Organ and Harpsichord. His LP recording premiere of William Albright's Four Fancies for Harpsichord was re-released by Albany Records as part of the Eastman School of Music’s American Music Series. His In Memoriam~William Albright, available on the EQUILIBRIUM label, was the first recording of C.B. Fisk Organ, Opus 110 in Minato Mirai Concert Hall, Yokohama, Japan and features Michael Barone as narrator on Albright’s King of Instruments.  

Douglas Reed's North American Organ Music After 1800 appears in The Cambridge Companion to the Organ, published by Cambridge University Press. His journal articles have been published by The American Organist and The Diapason. He has received research grants and awards from the Indiana Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, the Mesker Trust Fund, the University of Evansville, and the Friends of UE Music. He was also honored with the University of Evansville’s Sadelle and Sydney Berger Annual Award for Scholarship. He has been listed in recent editions of Who's Who Among America’s Teachers and Who’s Who in America. In 2007, he received a Global Scholar Grant from the University of Evansville for the study of Global Christian Song.

Dr. Reed completed his formal academic work at the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester where he earned the Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance and Literature (Organ) and the Performer's Certificate as a student of Russell Saunders. He holds the Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in organ performance from the University of Michigan where he studied with Robert Clark, Robert Glasgow, and Kim Kasling.
