Biography

Dutch cellist Ella van Poucke began playing the cello at the age of six and soon after entered the Royal Conservatory of The Hague and later the Conservatory of Amsterdam.                                         At the age of 10 Ella was selected to play in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and since then has been performing in all the major halls of the Netherlands and abroad. She has played for the 60th anniversary of the International Court of Justice in The Hague for a distinguished audience, which included the queen of the Netherlands and other international dignitaries.Ella was a first prizewinner of the 2008 Princess Christina Competition, and in November of the same year she made her solo debut in the big hall of the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam, performing Vivaldi concerto for two celli with cellist Colin Carr. In 2010 Ella won the prize for the most promising talent in the Cello Competition of Amsterdam.Ella and her brother, pianist Nicolas van Poucke, form the Ellani duo and regularly play concerts in the Netherlands and abroad. On January 1st 2009 they began a concert series by the name of EllaNi in the Amstelkerk in Amsterdam. In 2010 they organized the first EllaNi Chamber Music Festival.                                                                   In addition to the performances in her own series and other solo performances, Ella has been guest in the Zenith Festival and is a regular guest with the Amsterdam Chamber Music Society, where she performs with violinists Christiaan Bor, Frederieke Saeijs, cellist Godfried Hoogeveen and pianist Jean-Claude Vanden Eyden and others.Ella has participated in various music festivals including the Verbier Festival Academy in Switzerland, Pablo Casals Festival in Prades, Kronberg Cello Masterclasses in Germany and Music@Menlo in the U.S.A. Ella has performed in all major halls of the Netherlands and in Austria, Greece, Germany, Switzerland, France, and the U.S.Ella has performed in solo and chamber music masterclasses for artists such as Bernard Greenhouse, Menahem Pressler, Thorleif Thedéen, Laurence Lesser, David Finckel and Anner Bijlsma.          Several times a year Ella has lessons from cellist Colin Carr. She has regular lessons with cellist Godfried Hoogeveen. Since september 2009 Ella studies with professor Frans Helmerson in Kronberg.www.ellavanpoucke.com www.ellani.org
