Gail Olszewski, Piano

Biography

Gail Olszewski has played solo and chamber recitals on
piano, fortepiano, harpsichord, organ, harmonium, celesta and synthesizer in
the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Central America.  An active free-lancer in the
Minneapolis/St. Paul area where she lives, she has appeared with many ensembles,
including St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Opera and
Music St. Croix.  Performance
highlights include soloist in the piano concerto of Clara Schumann with the
Minneapolis Philharmonic in 2002, harpsichord soloist with the St. Paul Chamber
Orchestra in 2003, solo modern piano and fortepiano recitals in Canberra,
Australia in 2004 and fortepiano recitals in 2005 and 2007 on the Frederick
Collection’s concert series in Ashburnham, Massachusetts.  She is a founding member of The WolfGang,
dedicated to authentic instrument performance that released its first CD in
Fall 2007.  She received a Bachelor
of Arts degree in Music History and Spanish from the University of New
Hampshire, a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from Boston
University, and the degree Doctor of Musical Arts in Accompanying and Coaching
from the University of Minnesota, where she studied with collaborative pianists
Margo Garrett and Karl Paulnack. 
Dr. Olszewski has studied fortepiano at the Baroque Performance
Institute at Oberlin with Penelope Crawford, with David Breitman as part of the
Vancouver Early Music Programme and the Classical Chamber Music Workshop at
Oberlin, Jacques Ogg at the Vancouver Early Music Programme and Tom Beghin at
McGill in MontrĂ©al.  She has given
presentations and performances on various musical subjects at historical
keyboard society conclaves and to many professional organizations in the United
States.  Dr. Olszewski is a faculty
member of the MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she
teaches piano, harpsichord and chamber music.
