Biography

Violinist and composer Ilya Dobrovitsky first performed as a soloist with orchestra at the age of eleven and has since performed as an invited soloist in the United States, France, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Italy, and Taiwan. In 2013, Ilya Dobrovitsky made his debut at the Isaac Stern Auditorium of Carnegie Hall, as the concertmaster of the New York Festival Orchestra, at the USA-Japan Goodwill Concert. Ilya’s notable performances as a soloist include an appearance at the Carnegie Hall’s, Weil Recital Hall, performances with the Peabody Youth Symphony Orchestra, a solo appearance at the Lake George Music Festival, an appearance at the Meadows Museum of Art in Dallas, TX, as part of the Russian Music Festival, and an appearance at the Community Concerts at the Second in Baltimore, MD. As an orchestra musician, Ilya Dobrovitsky has served as the concertmaster of the Catholic University Symphony Orchestra and the Bel Cantanti Opera Orchestra. He has also been a member of the Foundation Singer-Polignac Orchestra, at the 17th Festival de Pâques and has played professionally with the Lancaster Symphony and Opera Camerata of Washington. 

An enthusiastic performer of modern music, Ilya Dobrovitsky has performed with the contemporary music ensemble Ossia, with whom he has appeared on the WXXI-FM public radio show, "Backstage Pass," hosted by J. Figueras. Mr. Dobrovitsky also performed with the contemporary music ensemble Syzygy at the Southern Methodist University and its director Matt Albert (founding member of the eighth blackbird ensemble).

Ilya Dobrovitsky has participated in numerous international festivals such as: ENCORE School for Strings, Summit Music Festival, and Bowdoin Music Festival. In 2010, he was loaned the 1714, “May-Jaquet” Stradivari violin and Sartory bow, by the Eastman School of music. Ilva received the J.C. Van Hulstein Award and the Lindred Scott Bendann Endowed Scholarship at the Peabody Conservatory. He was also a recipient of the Artistic Scholarship at the Southern Methodist University, Meadows School of the Arts in Dallas, TX, and he was awarded a full scholarship at the Catholic University of America. 

Ilya Dobrovitsky was born in Moscow, Russia and began his studies at the prestigious Gnessin School of Music. Upon immigration to the USA, he continued his studies at the Peabody Conservatory and the Eastman School of Music. Ilya Dobrovitsky's major teachers include: Mikhail Kopelman, Victor Danchenko, Elisabeth Adkins, Keng-Yuen Tseng, and Leri Slutsky.

Ilya Dobrovitsky is currently teaching group violin lessons for the Baltimore Talent Education Center at the Liberty, Templeton, and Robert Coleman Elementary Schools, in Baltimore, MD, as well as having his own private studio in the Baltimore area.
