Biography

Finnish-born Johanna Franzon graduated with a Master of Music degree from the Sibelius-Academy in 2004, and recently completed her post-graduate studies in Gothenburg, Sweden. She won 1st Prize at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels as the best string player of the year, where she studied with Adam Korniszewski.

Ms. Franzon has given chamber music and solo concerts in Europe, the United States, and Japan. Her first recording, of the Vivaldi Concerto, was made at the age of nine, and two years later she performed as soloist in the Violin Concerto in E Major by J.S.Bach at the Finlandia Hall, Helsinki. More recently, her solo engagements have included concerts with several Finnish symphonies and chamber orchestras. Her festival activity includes the Turku New Music Festival, where she joined the Canadian-North-American ERGO-ensemble. In 2004, she placed among the top six violinists in the Rodrigo competition in Madrid.

Currently, she holds the position of concert master with the Pori Sinfonietta, Finland. Previously, she held the same position with the Vasa City Orchestra. She has collaborated with ail the major orchestras in Helsinki as well as with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Jukka-Pekka Saraste and Herbert Blomstedt.

Johanna Franzon plays a Nicolas Lupot violin from 1797, on generous loan from the government of Sweden. Among the highlights of the coming season are her August solo debut with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, playing the Stravinsky violin concerto, and her commitment to chamber music as the leader of the Trio FN.
