Biography

Flutist Kaori Fujii has emerged as one of the most imaginative and creative flutists of her generation. From baroque to contemporary, her distinctive sound captivates audiences and critics alike, while the breadth, depth and lyricism of her music distinguish her as a trend-setting flutist.

Ms. Fujii has performed numerous concerts broadcast on major TV channels in Europe and Japan and made many guest appearances on popular radio shows. Most recently, she was featured as an orchestral soloist at a televised Christmas Gala Concert in Germany, broadcast nationwide and attended by the German President. She has released 7 solo albums, one of which was pre-nominated for the Grammy Awards in 7 categories.

Ms. Fujii has performed on tours with such conductors, ensembles and orchestras as Ennio Morricone, Albrecht Mayer, Phillip Moll, Prague Chamber Music Orchestra, Sinfonia Varsovia, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she has graced the stages of leading concert halls, such as Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Teresa Carreño Theater, and the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall.

A graduate of the Tokyo University of the Arts, and of the soloist class of the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart, Ms Fujii has won many competitions in Japan and Germany, many of them as the youngest winner in the history of the competitions. She has studied with Jean-Claude Gérard, Paul Meisen, Jeannie Baxtresser, Aurèle Nicolet, Wolfgang Schulz, Sir James Galway and Akiko Mikami. www.kaorifujii.net
