Biography

Noriko Kitano began her study of piano in her native Osaka, Japan, as a private pupil of Tsieko Heki, an instructor at the Osaka Music College. She was invited to perform on radio productions at the age of nine and passed the state final examination for pianist at the College after official studies there from 1972 to 1976. Prof. Nobuko Yasada and private lessons from Tsuya Toyama and Max Egger in Tokio also contributed to her formation in Japan. Competition prizes including the
International Competition of French Piano Music in 1975 were followed by further studies at the Northwest German Music Academy in Detmold from 1976 to 1981. She majored in piano under Prof. Wilfried Kassebaum there and passed the qualifying examination in her field. Noriko Kitano
appears in concert and has served as a piano instructor in the music education program at the University of Munster/Germany since 1978.
