Biography

Cellist Samuel Magill has been a member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra since he was appointed Associate Principal Cello in 1991. A former member of both the Houston and Pittsburgh Orchestras, he is an avid chamber musician and soloist. A Naxos recording artist, Sam has recorded the Vernon Duke Cello Concerto and a 2nd CD of Franco Alfano's Cello Sonata and Piano Trio, both discs being world premiere recordings. As a soloist He has appeared throughout Japan, including concerto performances at the famous Suntory Hall, as well as Alice Tully Hall in New York. Mr. Magill specializes in forgotten late romantic and 20th century composers and has played annual recitals at Lincoln Center's Bruno Walter Auditorium since 1994.
