She has appeared at such important venues as Finlandia Hall (Helsinki), Bozar – Palais de Beaux Arts (Brussels), Queen Elizabeth Halls in Antwerp and London, Purcell Room (London), Liszt Academy Concert Hall (Budapest), and the Sibelius Academy Concert Hall (Helsinki). She graduated as a Doctor of Music in 2009, having completed her thesis on ‘The Development of the Left Hand Cello Technique since the 18th Century’ – in the work she also introduces her own left hand technique, which she especially uses in virtuoso works. Ms. Toivio plays a Nicholas L’Ainé cello from 1810.

Duo Toivio: Seeli and Kalle Toivio are Finnish-born sister and brother who have performed together since their childhood. They have appeared in many countries in Europe, including Finland, England, Germany, France, Hungary, Spain, and Italy, and also in the United States, Japan and South Africa.  The Duo has performed on radio and TV in several countries (BBC in England, YLE in Finland, KLARA in Belgium), and their first CD "Virtuoso Cello", released by Alba Records in November 2011, was highly praised by critics.  In October 2012, during their US tour, Duo Toivio will appear in Chicago, New York’s Carnegie Hall, and at the Finnish Embassy in Washington.  Future plans include concert tours in Finland, Holland and Norway. The Duo will release their second album in 2013 – 14, featuring the Rachmaninoff Sonata for piano and cello
