Biography

Tareq Nazmi was born in Kuwait in 1983 and has lived most of his life in Munich where he currently resides. He received his first vocal lessons with Hartmut Elbert at the Bavarian Academy for Young Singers. He graduated in the class of Prof. Edith Wiens at the University for Music and Performing Arts, Munich. He is currently studying for a Masters in Music (Performance) with Prof. Christian Gerhaher. He has participated in Masterclasses with such distinguished names as Edith Bers, Mathhias Goerne, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Malcolm Martineau, Denise Massand, Rudolf Piernay, Roger Vignoles, and Brian Zeger.

Tareq is a regular Prize-Winner in competition. In 2009, he received 1st Prize in The Hamel-Foundation Competition. In 2008, he won a special award at the Вundeswettberb Gesang. He is also a recipient of a scholarship from The Тtudienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes and The Steans Institutes in Ravinia, Chicago.

He has participated in productions at The Bavarian Theater Academy such as ‘What next/ Gianni Schicchi’ and ‘Die Nacht’(scenic production based on music by Mozart). This production also travelled to The Ruhrtriennale in Essen. Last Season he sang Lord Syndham in a new production of Zar und Zimmermann by Lortzin and he performed his debut Sarastro at the Theater of Augsburg.

Tareq has performed with The Munich Radio Orchestra in concert versions of Verdi’s Macbeth conducted by Friedrich Haider, Carl Maria v. Weber’s Silvana, Orff’s Orpheus in der Unterwelt, and a scenic production of Puccini’s La Boheme singing Colline; all of which conducted by Maestro Ulf Schirmer.

In 2009, he sang Bass Solo in Beethovens 9th Symphony with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra in Hanoi under the baton of Maestro Jonas Alber.

The 2010/11 season is extremely productive as he is member of the Opera Studio at the Bavarian State Opera House. He previously performed there as a guest in the 2009 Opera Studio production of Rossini’s Cenerentola in the role of Alidoro. He has recently performed the roles of Melibeo in this year’s Opera Studio production of Haydn’s La Fedelta Premiata. Roles at the Bavarian State Opera are Astolfo in Lucrezia Borgia by Donizetti and Lakai in Ariadne auf Naxos by R. Strauss.
