Biography

Pianist Terence Yung has appeared throughout the United States as a recitalist, in chamber music concerts and as a soloist with orchestras, including performances in New York City, Philadelphia, Seattle, and Houston as well as abroad in Spain and France. A recipient of numerous awards, Mr. Yung's international honors include top prizes at the Puigcerdà International Music Competition in Spain and the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition in New York City. 

Notable venues include Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center of Performing Arts (Philadelphia), Benaroya Hall (Seattle), the Grand Opera House (Delaware), Teatro de Puigcerdá (Spain), the Juilliard School (New York City), Mannes College, Steinway Hall, Yamaha Salon, the Kosciuszko Foundation and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston. He has appeared as a soloist with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, the Wilmington Community Orchestra and the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia.

In the United States and abroad, Mr. Yung has appeared at a number of international music festivals, including the International Piano Festival (Houston), the International Keyboard Institute and Festival (New York City), the Puigcerdà International Music Festival (Spain), the Académie Internationale d'été de Nice (France), the Seattle International Piano Festival and the Adirondack International Music Festival in upstate New York. 

Mr. Yung, who grew up in the United States, studied with Eleanor Sokoloff of the Curtis Institute of Music before entering the Juilliard School in New York City at age 13, where he was a scholarship student. He continues his studies with Abbey Simon in Texas. He also holds diplomas from the Conservatoire National de Region de Nice in France, where he worked with Philippe Entremont, and is the recipient of many awards for his scholastic and pianistic achievements. He has received coaching from Garrick Ohlsson as well.

Mr. Yung has been committed to arts activism, supporting efforts in the education and outreach of classical music. Mr. Yung is affiliated with Sing for Hope, a non-profit organization that mobilizes artists to communities in need. His work has brought the gift of music to the underprivileged children of inner-city Houston. Terence Yung has been a subject of interviews by Ming Pao Daily News, The Global Chinese Times and French public news as a young pianist from Hong Kong.
