Biography

Having lived in many cities around the world, she came to Montreal in 2003 from Alaska to study with Prof. Kyoko Hashimoto at McGill University. In 2004, she was given the Bruneau Prize from McGill for her exceptional solo recital. She has been actively playing solo and chamber music concerts regularly in the Montreal area through the Access Montreal Culture Program. She works as an official accompanist at Queens University and an organist at Eglise Saint Arsene. She performs with two other Japanese pianists as the group Tomo Trio, Piano Duo HATO introducing the Japanese folk music arranged by Akira Miyoshi and Yoshinao Nakada. Previously, she was a member of the Chamber Music Society at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at University of Alaska-Fairbanks. In Alaska, she played in the keyboard section of the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra conducted by Prof. Eduard Zilberkant. Recent major projects are a Tomo Trio tour in Japan, performances with the Alexander String Quartet in Florence, Italy, and the three recording projects of music by Mozart, Chopin, Schubert, Bekku, Ravel, and Rachmaninoff with the recording engineer Meining Cheung. She does not hesitate to propose unconventional concert, playing in free-improvisation concerts lead by Jean-Marc Bouchard, saxophone and in Journées de la culture – the audience will do a sketch during the performance. Her concert appearances include venues in the United States, Canada, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland and Italy. She holds a PhD and worked in a field of physical oceanography for many years before she has started to play piano.
