Biography

Formed in 2012, Trio Égal is one of the most promising piano trios on today’s musical scene, and each of its acclaimed members is already pursuing an international career.

Pianist, Ruti Abramovich, praised for her  ‘sensitive touch, sense of line, ability to summon tone colors and a playing which honors the music and caresses the ears’ (Bloomington Herald Times), has performed as an orchestral soloist, chamber musician, and recitalist across the US, Europe and the Middle East.  Performances in the Chicago area include the Spertus Institute, live radio broadcasts on PianoForte Salon Series, and CSO’s preview concert series at the Art Institute. She received her Doctor of Music degree in piano performance and literature from Indiana University, where she worked with Menahem Pressler. She is the winner of the Indiana University Concerto Competition, the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale, the IU Latin American Music competition, and Tel-Aviv Academy competitions.  Ms. Abramovitch is piano and theory faculty at Vandercook College of Music and the Music Institute of Chicago.

Jaime Gorgojo, Violin, frequently appears as a chamber musician and soloist both nationally and internationally. He has collaborated with artists such as YoYo Ma, Riccardo Muti, Lorin Maazel, and Emanuel Ax. In 2010 he became Concertmaster of the Civic Orchestra and often appears as guest Concertmaster with other groups in and around Chicago. An avid explorer of different musical styles, he plays first violin with Corky Siegel´s Chamber Blues.  Mr. Gorgojo is Violin and Viola Faculty at North Eastern Illinois University in Chicago and Founder/Director of the NEIU Chicago String Festival.  He received his Doctor of Music and Literature degree from Indiana University in October 2013. He is the winner of the “JMM Award” and recipient of the prestigious “La Caixa Fellowiship”. He plays a Dalphin violin from 2005.

Cellist Hope Shepherd is active as an orchestral and chamber musician and a teacher. Currently a member of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Ms. Shepherd has previously been principal cellist of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Symphony Orchestra at the Tanglewood Music Center, and the Rice University Symphony Orchestra. She has worked with renowned conductors such as James Levine, Riccardo Muti, Kurt Masur, Jaap van Zweden, and Michael Tilson Thomas. As a student at Arizona State University, she participated in a unique String Quartet Residency program that allowed her to perform alongside members of the Juilliard, St. Lawrence, and Brentano String Quartets. She maintains a cello studio and is currently teaching at the Merit School of Music and the Chicago Center for Music Education. Ms. Shepherd holds a Master’s degree from Rice University and a Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University.
