Arnaud Desvignes

Born in 1976 in Paris, Arnaud Desvignes began learning music and piano at age four.  Multiple strong musical influences, from Middle Ages to spectral music, to music from outside Europe, have forged his writing for twenty years.  The violinist Sidonie Bougamont  interprets one of his first works in Paris in 1999. Starting in 2000, he becomes the music director of The Third Theatre company, for which he writes six musical stage pieces, including two theatrical creations of the troupe. In July 2009, the pianist Nima Sarkechik interprets Soliol, one of his first piano suites, at the Festival de Radio France in Montpellier.  He writes a wind quintet Body and Leather commissioned by Artecombo Quintet commissions. Pianist Nicolas Horvath performs two of his pieces in Prague and Collioure in June 2011.

Not content to be accountable to the pre-20th century masters, his music is freed from this tradition by making use of the profound diversity of styles in the 20th century to build a personal work.

Thus, the music of Gérard Pesson and Salvatore Sciarrino played the role of developer of color music, through their use of game modes and "erasing poetic" at work in their music as an invitation to more restraint in the ephemeral.

On the other hand, the works of Tristan Murail and Gerard Grisey awakened in him the power and richness of timbres coupled with a great French tradition of poetry.

Finally, in the tradition of composers Bernd Alois Zimmermann, Giacinto Scelsi, Morton Feldman and Hughes Dufourt, he turned resolutely towards a language where time management and sound makes sense and where the sounds are deployed over time.

The movement, even slow, characterized his music: the movement in the search for a form-changing, never static, and the movement in the evolution of chromatic harmonic structures. Considering music as a language, Arnaud Desvignes in working to use all resources, both in the abstract sounds in their concrete layout.
