Quartetto Anthos

February 14, 2011

Quartetto Anthos. The four young Italian musicians who formed Quartetto Anthos – Agnese Tasso, violin, Jessica Orlandi, viola, Silvia Dal Paos, cello, and Francesco Spazian, piano – studied separately at the academies of Bergamo, Parma, Lugano, Salzburg, Pittsburgh and Tel Aviv. They were brought together by their common vision and love of classical Viennese and contemporary repertoire. The quartet grew artistically under the direction of the pianist Konstantin Bogino, a student of Vera Gornostayeva; the pianist Pier Narciso Masi, a favorite pupil of Edwin Fischer; Trio di Parma, and Trio di Trieste.

Considered one of the most interesting new Italian ensembles, Quartetto Anthos won award in several Italian and international competitions and perform in the most prestigious concert halls of Italy. Composer Antonio Zanon, Fabio Mengozzi and Gianluca Cascioli all wrote pieces for the quartet.

We'll hear two performances by Anthos. One is the first movement of Robert Schumann's Piano Quartet in E flat major, op. 47; another is the finale of Piano Quartet in g minor, Op. 25, by Johannes Brahms, the first of his three piano quartets.
