Alice Yoo, Cello

Biography

Cellist Alice Yoo has performed in prestigious venues such as New York’s Weill and Zankel Halls, Boston’s Jordan Hall, and the Kennedy Center in Washington.  A passionate chamber musician, Ms. Yoo has collaborated with artists such as Itzhak Perlman, Pamela Frank, Kim Kashkashian, Midori Goto, Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, Ralph Kirshbaum, and Atar Arad. Festival appearances include Caramoor’s Evnin Rising Stars Series, the Ravinia Festival’s Steans Institute, and Music@Menlo.

Ms. Yoo’s performances have been broadcast on Los Angeles’ KUSC and Boston’s WGBH.  She is currently a member of Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble ACJW, performing regularly there and working with New York City public schools to enhance their music education. In 2011-2012, Ms. Yoo and Roman Rabinovich performed the complete Beethoven cello sonatas as Artists in Residence at the Yellow Barn Music Festival.            

Ms. Yoo won first prize in the USC 2009 Concerto competition and has also won top prizes at the Holland-America Music Society Competition, Cleveland Cello Society, and Schadt International String Competition.  Solo appearances with orchestra include the Cleveland Philharmonic, Bozeman and Billings symphonies.

Ms. Yoo earned a Bachelor of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory, studying with Paul Katz. She received a Post-Graduate Diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music and a Master’s Degree from the University of Southern California, studying with Ralph Kirshbaum. She is currently on faculty at Bard College’s Preparatory Division, teaching cello and chamber music, and resides in New York City.
