Played trumpet in high school and US Naval Academy. Played first trumpet two years in dance bands in high school and USNA, Also played solo cornet, first chair last two years in each school. In 1960 played solo at Navy halftime show from Navy-Marine Corps Memoirial Stadium in Annapolis MD, on one-valve bugle (as lead bugler in USNA Drum and Bugle Corps). Song played was "Lady of Spain." Entire show was broadcast nationwide as ABC Game of the Week. President Eisenhower attended the game. My grandmother and some of her friends caught the game in Vancouver BC, where she said, after my name and hometown were announced, "That's my grandson!" One of the former trumpet players under me in the high school band remarked at our 50th reunion in 2007 that he had heard and seen it also, and he repeated ver batim the announcement by the Stadium announcer!
