Biography

Yang was an arresting performer…everywhere, in command. Remember his name.”  That is the praise lavished by The Boston Globe on Korean violinist In Mo Yang, the First Prize Winner of the 2014 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition.  In March 2015 he earned First Prize at the 54th International Violin Competition “Premio Paganini” in Genoa, Italy, marking the first time since 2006 that the Paganini Competition jury awarded the First Prize, and Mr. Yang also won these special prizes: Youngest finalist; Best performance of the contemporary original piece; and Performance most appreciated by the audience. As a result of these successes, he has received performance opportunities with prestigious orchestras and at renowned recital venues throughout North America and Europe. He begins the 2015-16 season with concerts at the Ravinia Festival’s Steans Music Institute and recitals at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival. He will make his Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall on the CAG Winners series, and he also performs a special recital in Genoa, Italy, using Paganini’s own Guarneri Del Gesu violin.  Anticipated concerto appearances next season include the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Danish National Orchestra, Philharmonia Zurich, and the Austin Symphony Orchestra.

Mr. Yang has been a concerto soloist with the NDR Radiophilharmonie, Russian Symphony Orchestra, Boston Classical Orchestra, among others, and his many festival appearances include Ravinia, Ishikawa Music Academy, and the Great Mountains International Music Festival. Just before winning CAG, Mr. Yang also garnered Second Prize in the 2014 Yehudi Menuhin International Competition.

Born in Seoul in 1995, Mr. Yang graduated from the Korean National Institute for the Gifted in Arts in February 2011 and was then admitted into the Korean National University of Arts as a prodigy in music. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree at New England Conservatory, where he studies with Miriam Fried as a recipient of the Laurence Lesser Presidential Scholarship.
