Jennifer
Johnson is a first year member of the
Metropolitan Opera's Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. This season,
Ms. Johnson makes her Chicago Opera Theater debut as Kate Julian in Owen Wingrave.
Ms. Johnson was recently awarded a 2009 Sullivan Foundation Award.
A national winner of the 2008 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions,
Ms. Johnson's voice was hailed as "dusky toned and vibrant" by the New York
Times. After two seasons as a Gerdine Young Artist with Opera Theatre of St. Louis,
Ms. Johnson made her principal artist debut there this past summer as The
Muse/Nicklausse in Offenbach's The Tales
of Hoffmann. Last August, she participated in the Ravinia Festival's Steans
Institute for Young Artists.
Ms. Johnson obtained her Bachelor's degree in Music from Webster
University in St. Louis. She received her Master's degree from Rice University
in Houston, Texas, where she performed the roles of Ramiro in La finta giardiniera, Emma Jones in Street Scene, and the title role in
Handel's Rinaldo.
