Biography

Born in Seoul, Korea, into a family of musicians, pianist Jiyeon Shin gave her first solo recital at the age of ten.  Since then, her orchestral, recital and chamber music performances have been heard throughout North America, Canada, Italy, and Korea. Ms. Shin's concerto appearances have included performances with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Yewon Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Bacau Philharmonic Orchestra, and Oberlin Orchestra. Her most recent orchestral engagement was with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra as a guest artist on their " Piano Virtuosity" Series.

Ms. Shin's recital appearances have been presented at such prestigious halls as Seoul's Hoam Arts Center, Chopin Hall, Seoul Center for the Performing Arts, Cleveland's Allen Theater, Cleveland Museum of Art, as well as in Joplin (Missouri), Fort Worth (Texas), Santa Barbara (California), Shreveport & Bossier City (Louisiana), and Corso Roma (Milan, Italy).  A number of her performances have been broadcast on KDB (Santa Barbara), KXMS (Joplin), and WCLV (Cleveland).

Jiyeon Shin received First Prizes in numerous competitions, including the Nena Wideman International Piano Competition, Kingsville International Piano Competition (where she was also awarded the Special Prize for the best performance of a Romantic work), Piano-Ohio Cleveland International Piano Competition Junior division, and the Oberlin International Piano Competition.  She was also the winner of the Seoul Orchestra Concerto Competition, TCU-Cliburn Concerto Competition and the Kumho Artistic Foundation's national auditions.

Jiyeon Shin's began her musical studies at the Yewon Arts School and Seoul Arts High School where she received the school's "Outstanding Pianist Award".   She then attended Oberlin Conservatory of Music as the recipient of a full scholarship studying with Haewon Song.  During her undergraduate years, Ms. Shin was the winner of the Rudolf Serkin Prize, the Arthur Dann Piano Competition, as well as the Oberlin Concerto Competition. She received her Master's degree from The Juilliard School as a student of Jerome Lowenthal. While at Juilliard, she was the recipient of the Schoenberg Scholarship and the Juilliard Alumni scholarship.
