Biography

Pianist Jooyoung Kim, a native of South Korea, has been critically acclaimed on international stages for her dazzling technique and superb musicianship. Since making her debut at the age of twelve as a soloist with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Ms. Kim has presented numerous solo and chamber recitals in Asia, Europe, and the United States. She has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras including the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Yonsei Sinfonietta, Yale University Symphony Orchestra, and the Ball State Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Ms. Kim’s upcoming and recent performances on a number of notable concert series include The Pianists of the World Series at St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, Music Mondays in Toronto, Les Dimanches Musicaux Concert Series, Atelier Concert Series in Paris, The Brick Church Concert Series in Deerfield, in addition to many others in the US and Asia.

Ms. Kim has won top prizes in national and international competitions including the Joong-Ang National Music Competition, the Yonsei Debut Award, the Kingsville International Piano Competition, the IBLA Grand Prize International Competition, Indianapolis Matinee Musicale Competition, Ball State University Graduate Concerto Competition, the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition, and the Taneev International Chamber Ensemble Competition in Russia where she took Third Prize, the Foreign Ensemble Prize, and Prize of the Union Composers of Russia.

As an active recitalist, soloist, and chamber musician, Ms. Kim’s music festival performances include the Yong-Pyung Music Festival and Busan Piano Festival in Korea, the International Piano Festival in Spain, Courchevel International Music Festival in France, and the Internationale Klavierakademie Murrhardt in Germany.  Ms. Kim was also invited to perform at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, New York University’s Casa Italiana Zerilli Marimo, Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, and the Kaluga Philharmonic Hall in Russia.

Jooyoung Kim graduated from Yewon Arts School, Seoul Arts High School, and Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea, from which she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with top honors. Ms. Kim received an Artist Diploma from the Universität der Künste in Berlin, Germany and then proceeded to earn a doctoral degree from Ball State University. Currently, Ms. Kim serves as Adjunct Piano Professor at Indiana Wesleyan University.
