Katherine DeJongh, Flute

Biography

One of North America's leading flutists, Katherine DeJongh has
performed throughout the United States, in Europe, the Middle East, and South
Korea. She has made concerto appearances with the Polish National Chamber
Orchestra, the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of Columbus, the National Repertory
Orchestra, the Olsztyn State Symphony, the Canton Symphony, and the Wooster
Symphony. Her performance of Lowell Liebermann's Concerto for flute and
orchestra with the Canton Symphony received particular critical acclaim. Ms.
DeJongh has performed as a recitalist in the United States on such series as
the New York Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, the Cleveland
Museum of Art, and the Stan Hywet concert series in Ohio. She has presented
masterclasses and performances at the Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw,
the Cairo Conservatory in Egypt, and at various conservatories in South Korea.
She has participated in festivals
including the National Repertory Orchestra and the Music Academy of the West,
(where she appeared as a soloist with orchestra), and the Aspen Music Festival.

In addition to her solo engagements, Katherine DeJongh holds the position
of principal flutist with the Canton Symphony and ProMusica Chamber Orchestra
of Columbus. She has additionally performed as principal flutist with the
Milwaukee Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Toledo Symphony, Akron Symphony,
Youngstown Symphony, Erie Philharmonic, and Wheeling Symphony. She has also
performed in the flute sections of the Cleveland Orchestra and the North
Carolina Symphony. Her recordings include her most recent CD for Centaur
Records entitled Twentieth Century Works for Flute and Orchestra, a CD
for Koch International featuring Concerto No. 1 for flute and orchestra
by Krzesimir Debski, a chamber music CD entitled Chindee of flute and
harp repertoire, and five CDs as a member of the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra of
Columbus on the d'Note and Summit Records labels.

Ms. DeJongh is on the faculty at Case Western Reserve University, the
Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory Department, The College of Wooster,
and the Interlochen Arts Camp. Additionally, she is a Selmer flute
clinician/educational consultant. Ms. DeJongh received her Bachelor of Music
from the University of Illinois, her Master of Music from the Cleveland
Institute of Music, and attended the Interlochen Arts Academy. Her teachers
include Jeffrey Khaner, Timothy Day, and Mary Kay Fink.
