Kinga Augustyn, Violin

Biography

Polish-born and New York City-based violinist Kinga Augustyn has been described as “an adventurous performer valuable to New York’s scene” (NY Concert Review), “stylish and vibrant” (The Strad Magazine), and “beyond amazing, one hell of a violinist!” (Fanfare Magazine).

She has performed as soloist with orchestras in the United States, Europe and Asia. Recent appearances include the Magdeburg and Wrocław Philharmonic orchestras, the Rogue Valley and Glacier symphonies, and the Riverside Symphonia. She frequently performs as a recitalist or chamber musician at venues including Carnegie Hall (both the Stern Auditorium and Weill Recital Hall), Alice Tully Hall, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Beijing’s Poly Theater and Shanghai Oriental Art Center.

Ms. Augustyn’s most recent and acclaimed recordings include Paganini’s 24 Caprices for Solo Violin, Glen Roven’s Runaway Bunny Concerto with Catherine Zeta-Jones as narrator, and an album of Polish Violin Music. Fanfare Magazine compares the excitement in her performances of Zarzycki’s Mazurkas to David Oistrakh’s.

International awards include First Prizes at the Alexander & Buono International String Competition (NYC), Artist International Presentations, J. S. Bach String Competition (Zielona Gora, Poland), and the 2015 Outstanding Pole Competition, category “Young Pole”, in the United States.  She holds Bachelor and Master degrees from The Juilliard School, and a doctorate from the SUNY at Stony Brook. Her primary teachers have included Dorothy DeLay, Cho-Liang Lin, and Naoko Tanaka. She plays an early 18th century violin made by Antonius Zanottus, generously on loan from a private collector.
