I am a long-time jazz fan and also enjoy early ambient music and "trip-hop". At last turning my attention to classical music, I am highly motivated to both learn the classical music cannon and discover new, innovative modern classical composers.
As a listener, so far I find myself gravitating toward lyrical, contemplative classical music, often nocturnal or spiritual in mood, with strong, emotive, melodic writing...rather than frenetic drama.
My range is dark lyricism to quiet romanticism, sacred minimalism to contemplative modernism, lyrical baroque to devotional polyphony.
I'm only now discovering French opera (Debussy's Pelléas et Mélisande, Fauré, Massenet) but have long enjoyed Monteverdi, Verdi, Puccini, and Bellini in particular.
