National Collegiate Chorale of Scotland (national.c.c.o.s), Chorale
Biography
The National Collegiate Chorale of Scotland was formed in 1996 to provide an opportunity for young singers in
Scotland to participate in choral singing at a national level. The first residential course for NCCoS at Glenalmond School in
Perthshire involving 55 young singers established the pattern for the NCCoS summer residential course. Although it has been developed
and improved since then, the format remains largely unchanged. During the course, 100 singers undertake a mixture of sectional
rehearsals, full choir rehearsals and individual singing lessons interspersed with recreation periods. In 1998, the choir issued its
first CD, A Burns Sequence followed in 2000 by Magnifical and Mighty, and in 2002 by There’s Lilt in the Song.
In 2000, NCCoS undertook its first tour outside Scotland giving concerts in Belfast and Dublin, and followed that in 2001 with a
seven concert tour of Sweden. The choir you will hear today is currently taking part in the Grant Park Festival.
Other choirs include the NCCoS Training Choir, Chamber Choir, National Boys Choir and eight Children’s Choirs.
Educational support has included the publication of books, provision of training courses for teachers and choir leaders, establishing a very
successful website and the sourcing and selling of resource material to promote choral singing in Scotland.
