New Trio, Trio

Biography

Rapidly gaining recognition, the New Trio won Grand Prizes at the 2008 Fischoff and the 2007 Coleman chamber music competitions and has given performances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, Jordan Hall in Boston, and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The Washington Post describes them as, "Ravishing," with a "warm subjectivity, intensity, and consciousness," and the Seattle Times adds, "Aside from individual virtuosity, there was a welcome flexibility and warmth of expression in everything they did.”

Individually, the members of the Trio have achieved outstanding success as soloists, chamber musicians, and orchestral players.

In August of 2008, Andrew Wan was named concertmaster of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. His performance of Elgar’s Violin Concerto was hailed as one of the top two musical moments of 2007 by La Presse. Mr. Wan has collaborated with artists such as the Juilliard Quartet, Gil Shaham, Andres Diaz, James Ehnes and Cho-Liang Lin. As soloist he has appeared with conductors such as Nagano, Casadesus, Vengerov, Oundjian, DePreist, and Stern. He is currently on faculty at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University.

Hailed as a “virtuosic tour-de-force” by the New York Concert Review and “spectacular” by the American Record Guide, cellist Patrick Jee has made appearances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, Wigmore Hall and the United Nations. Mr. Jee currently serves as the Assistant Principal Cellist of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and is on faculty at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. He can be heard on the Albany, HM, and Urtext (Naxos) record labels and is an editor for the International Music Company.

Praised by the New York Times for his “catlike ease” at the keyboard, American pianist Julio Elizalde made his New York City concerto debut performing with the Juilliard Orchestra under the baton of Anne Manson. He has collaborated with distinguished musicians such as Donald Weilerstein, Robert Mann, and Bonnie Hampton. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the San Francisco Conservatory and a Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the Juilliard School.
