Biography
NIKOLAI CHOUBINE, pianist
Nikolai Choubine was born in the city of Krasnodar, Russia into a family of musicians and began to play piano at the age of five. He received his early formal musical training from the Krasnodar School of Music for Children and the Krasnodar College of Music. In 1991 Ekaterinburg TV recorded Mr. Choubine’s performance of Liszt’s Piano Concerto #1. He was also featured on the Krasnodar TV program “Young Talents.” As a student of Valentina Zvereva he graduated from the Gnesin’s Academy of Music in Moscow with a degree in piano performance and pedagogy. Mr. Choubine also studied with Margarita Fedorova, a professor at Moscow Conservatory.
In August of 2003 Nikolai Choubine received a Master of Music degree from Miami University at Oxford, OH. During his time at Miami University, he won a concerto competition at Miami University School of Music and performed with the Miami University Orchestra in April of 2002. In the summer of 2002 Mr. Choubine attended Meadowmount School of Music on a full scholarship where he studied with Eric Larsen. In the summer of 2003 Nikolai Choubine attended Piano Summer at New Paltz on a full scholarship where he studied with V. Feltsman, D. Pollack, A.Slobodyanik, E. Andjaparidze, P. Ostrovsky, R. Hamilton and P. Kawin.
Nikolai Choubine is a prize-winner of several international piano competitions and a recepient of numerous awards including Marion and Eubie Blake Scholarship and Russian and East European Institute Mellon Endowment Fellowship. As an outstanding graduate student at Miami University, Mr. Choubine was inducted into the national music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda.
Mr. Choubine has recently has recently earned Doctor of Music in Piano Performance degree from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he studied with Prof. Arnaldo Cohen.
