Biography

Born in Israel, Rafael Skorka began his piano studies at the age of 8 at the Karmiel Conservatory with Svetlana Pachter. Between 2002 and 2006, he was a member of the Young Musicians’ Group of the Jerusalem Music Centre. He served for three years in the IDF as an Outstanding Musician while completing his Bachelor of Music degree at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance with Prof. Dr. Asaf Zohar, and is currently continuing his musical studies at Tel-Aviv University.  In the summer of 2009, he participated in the prestigious Ravinia Festival’s Steans Music Institute where he worked with distinguished musicians such as Miriam Fried, Leon Fleisher, Menahem Pressler, Claude Frank, Arie Vardi and others

Mr. Skorka has performed with several orchestras in Israel – the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, the Israeli Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, the Israel Sinfonietta Beer Sheva, the Ashdod Symphony Orchestra and the Tel-Aviv Soloists Ensemble, in addition to taking top prizes in a number of important competitions there. Since 2003, he has been granted several scholarships by the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.
