Biography

Raphaela Paetsch was born in 1996 in a musical family, she started cello lessons with her father Johann Sebastian Paetsch at the age of 4. In 2003 she started piano lessons at Music School department of he Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in Lugano and at the age of 13 she was accepted as a young student in the Pre-Professionale course at the Conservatory where she studied under Prof. Monika Leskovar.

From 2007 until 2012 she was solo cellist in the Orchestra d’Archi della Svizzera Italiana and won 1st Prize in the Torneo Internazionale di Musica and 1st Prize in der Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival, where she got to tour and debut in the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. She won numerous prizes in the categories Cello-solo, Cello-Violin Duo, Piano trio and Piano Duo in the Schweizer Jugendmusikwettbewerb and in 2014 she won Special Prize giving by the SUISA Fondation for the best performance of a Swiss composer. She has had lessons and participated in masterclasses with Wolgang E. Schmidt, Jens Peter Maintz, Jerome Pernoo, Konstantin Heidrich, Gregor Horsch, Wen Sinn Yang, Marko Ylönen, Troels Svane, Peter Hörr, Johannes Goritzky and Monique Bartels.

Raphaela regulary performs as soloist and in a chamber groups in numerous benefit concerts in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, France, Finland, Spain and the USA. Since 2001 she was invited to play as soloist with the Corelli Ensamble and invited at the age of 11 to perform in “Festivo” in Rauma Finnland. In 2007 she was soloist with the Locarno Chamber Orchestra and in 2015 she played as soloist with the Neues Sinfonieorchester Berlin and Orchester Berliner Musikfreunde. In 2016 she participated in the Casals Festival and played at the 2016 GrachtenFetsival in Amseterdam. From 2010-14 she recieved scholarship from the Fondazione Volkart Zürich and since 2016 she is kindly supported by the Fritz-Gerber Stiftung Zürich. Since 2015 she has been studying at the Universitat der Künste Berlin with Prof. Konstantin Heidrich.
