I am a 57 year old adult, born and raised in Chicago, who has studied classical piano since the age of four. I took formal lessons as a child for ten years which included four years of study, between the ages of 10 and 14, with Gavin Williamson. Gavin provided private lessons in his home in Hyde Park and shared his love of the harpsichord, concert piano, clavichord and vocal performance. During that time, we focused on Russell Lanning's Music of the Masters, Czerny, Kunz Cannons and Bach and the dynamics of motion and form.
In the 1970's, I attended a liberal arts college and graduated with majors in Economics and Accounting. Since then, I have dedicated myself, for thirty-five years, developing business systems for companies in the Banking, Health Care, Insurance and Aerospace industries. I am very athletic and I enjoy golf, bowling, tennis, dancing, theater and travel.
In 1982, I purchased a Yamaha C7D and I have grown technically with this piano ever since. I have worked, at my own pace, through a program of self-study of many composers.
Last year I joined the New Music School and I am studying with Susan Merdinger Greene. I am focused on all scales, chords, fingering, phrasing and rhythm and I concentrate daily on exercises that will build strength in my hands, arms and body. I am actively working on the Rachmaninoff Preludes (Op 23, No 3, 4, 5), Chopin Etude Op 10, No 3 and the Beethoven Sonata (Op 2 No 1 4th movement). I like to teach, inspire, motivate, coach and share a love of life and spirit through the performance of classical piano repertoire.
