The Formosa Quartet (Formosa.Q), Quartet

Biography

The Formosa Quartet, in residence at Ravinia's
Steans Institute for Young Artists this summer, was formed in 2003 when four
young musicians came together for a concert tour of Taiwan, the land of their
shared heritage. Individually, the members of the quartet have already
established themselves as leading solo, chamber, and orchestral
musicians.

Violinist
Jasmine Lin, a member of Chicago
Chamber Musicians and the Chicago String Quartet, studied with Josef Gingold at
Indiana University and is a graduate of The Curtis Institute of Music. Winner
of second prize in the 1998 Naumburg International Violin Competition, she has
been heard internationally as recitalist, orchestral soloist and chamber
musician. She also served as second assistant concertmaster of the Cincinnati
Symphony Orchestra for one year. She participated as a soloist in the Steans
Institute for two seasons in 1999 and 2000.

Violinist
Joseph Lin, a graduate of Harvard
College, has recently been in Beijing, studying Chinese music on a Fulbright
grant. He is winner of the Concert Artists Guild International Competition, Pro
Musicis International Award and the first Michael Hill World Violin
Competition. He participated in the Steans Institute in 1997.

Winner
of the 2003 International Primrose Viola Competition, Che-Yen Chen holds degrees from The Curtis Institute of Music and
The Juilliard School. A former member of the Avalon String Quartet, the New
World Symphony and the Florida Symphony, he is a member of Lincoln Center's
Chamber Music Society Two and is principal viola of the San Diego Symphony. He
participated in the Steans Institute in 1997 and 1998 and was also a member of Musicians
from Ravinia's Steans Institute during that group's inaugural tour.

Cellist Ru-Pei
Yeh
is a graduate of New England Conservatory and has a master's degree from
The Juilliard School, where she is currently pursuing an artist diploma. She
has performed as a recitalist, orchestral soloist, chamber musician and
orchestral player throughout North America, Asia, and Europe
