Yevgeny Yontov, Piano
Biography
Yevgeny Yontov was born in 1989 in Odessa, Ukraine, and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1990. He began his piano studies at the age of six with Adela Umansky, and later received his B.Mus degree summa cum laude from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel-Aviv University, where he studied with Prof. Arie Vardi. He then moved to the USA and received his M.M. degree from the Yale School of Music, where he is currently studying with Prof. Boris Berman, while pursuing a D.M.A. degree.
In December 2013, he won 1st prize and the gold medal at the Wideman International Piano Competition. As a result, he has numerous concerts across the country this season, including performances with orchestras in Florida, Arkansas and Louisiana. In the past, he received 1st prize in the Tel-Hai International Concerto Competition in Israel, and 4th prize in the International Piano Competition in Pinerolo, where he also received a special prize for an outstanding performance of a Beethoven Sonata in the finals.
In Israel, Mr. Yontov won many prizes including: 1st prizes in “Kol Ha'Musika” Young Artists Competition in Jerusalem, Clairmont Competition in Tel-Aviv, and the “Peak Moments” and “Psanter Le’Tamid” Competitions in Ashdod. He has also won additional prizes in the Pnina Salzman Competition in Kfar-Saba and in the Ariana Katz Competition in the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music in Tel-Aviv. He has performed with most of the important orchestras in Israel, including The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra "IBA", the Israeli Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion, and the Israel Chamber Orchestra, among others.
As an active chamber musician, Mr. Yontov has played chamber concerts in Israel, Europe, South America, Canada and the US, including concerts in Carnegie Hall, with colleagues as well as with distinguished artists, such as the clarinetist David Shifrin. As a solo artist, he has performed on stages in Israel and the US, and in many countries in Europe, including Germany, Italy, Portugal, Ireland, Holland and Georgia. He also performed on Israeli national TV, and recorded for Israeli and Portuguese radio.
