Biography

Yoon Jung Yang was born in Korea in 1985, where she studied with Sung-Joo Lee and Jun-Soo Jeong. After graduating from the prestigious Ye-Won Art School, she was admitted into the world-reknown Curtis Institute in 2001. There she received a Bachelor of Music degree while studying with Aaron Rosand and Pamela Frank.

Ms. Yang has won awards from numerous competitions, both in her native country and abroad. She won Grand Prizes at the Music Journal Competition, the Sejong Competition, as well as first prizes at the TBC Competition, Seoul Philharmonic Concerto Competition, the Ewha Kyung Hyang Competition, and an award from the Pusan Times Competition. Her career includes performances both as a recitalist and solo performer, and she has performed on numerous occasions with the Seoul Philharmonic and TBC Symphony orchestras. Ms. Yang was recently invited to perform the Brahms Violin Concerto with Gwa-Cheon Youth Orchestra in 2008, and was also featured by the Pleven Philharmonic Orchestra in Bulgaria playing the Beethoven Concerto.

Ms. Yang is further an active chamber musician, and has collaborated in concerts with some of the great artists of our time, including Atar Arrad, Boris Berman, Timothy Eddy, Ralph Kirshbaum, Natasha Brofsky, Paula Robinson and Seymour Lipkin. Her interests range from the music of the masters to those of her contemporaries, and she has worked with important living composers to realize new works such as Richard Danielpour and Mario Davidovsky. She was asked to collaborate the opening concert of Isabella Gardner Museum’s Winter/Spring 2009 season and to perform with her string quartet on the Gala concert series at Jordan Hall in Boston in 2009. She has recently won the Honor’s Ensemble Audition of the New England Conservatory of Music with her string quartet and the audition of Yellow Barn Residency Workshop of Gyorgy Kurtag’s “Kafka Fragments” which both will performed in Spring 2010.

Her summer festival experience is also extensive, as she has participated in the Aspen Music Festival, Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival, the Music Academy of the West, and the Ravinia Festival to name a few. Ms. Yang continues her education at the New England Conservatory of Music where she received a Masters of Music degree and in 2009 and is currently enrolling a Doctorate of Music. There, she studies with the noted violinist Miriam Fried and attends on a full merit-based scholarship.
