"Flight of the Bumble Bee" by Rimsky-Korsakov transcribed by Rachmaninoff

Played by Canadian pianist David-Michael Dunbar.

"Flight of the Bumble Bee" is a popular Virtuoso encore piece, displaying Rimsky-Korsakov's skill. The fast chromatic runs vividly bring to mind a bee in flight. Flight of the Bumble Bee comes from Act 3 of the opera The Tale of Tsar Sultan (1903); the hero Prince Gvidon has been transformed by magic into a bee and in revenge, he stings his wicked aunts and the old witch who plotted against him.
