Il Carnivale di Venezia, Op. 78       Giulio Briccialdi

Composer and flutist Giulio Briccialdi was born in Terni, Italy in 1818. His precocious talents were recognized when at age fifteen he was made a member of the exclusive Accademia di S. Cecilia and four years later, chosen as flute teacher to the King of Naples' brother. Briccialdi toured Europe and America performing his own works and displaying Paganini-like virtuosity on the flute. Il Carnivale di Venezia is the best known of his virtuoso "theme and variation" showpieces.  Nina Assimakopoulos
