According to Greek mythology, Pan saw a beautiful girl called Syrinx. He was captivated and started to pursue her. Eventually, Syrinx reached the edge of the river and could find no escape. When Pan closed in on her, Syrinx asked help from the Nymphs to disguise her, and the Nymphs changed Syrinx into marsh reeds which lined the river’s edge. Pan searched for Syrinx in the marsh reeds but couldn’t find her.  He sighed deeply and discovered the hollow reeds changed his sigh into a beautiful melody. Inspired, he turned the reeds into his now famous panpipes and used them to express his great sadness. Here I play Pan’s sad and lonely movements.          Notes by Jamie Yoo
