La Valse, Maurice Ravel, arrangement by Mei-Ting Sun
One of the greatest orchestral masterpieces of the impressionist era, La Valse was originally commissioned from Ravel by Sergei Diaghilev for the Ballet Russe. After Diaghilev rejected the work, Ravel would end all relations with the impresario.
I have made an arrangement of the waltz for solo piano, primarily because I felt that Ravel’s arrangement for piano did not do his orchestral version justice. My arrangement was premiered in May 2012, as part of a recital dedicated to the history and evolution of the Waltz.Mei-Ting Sun
