Born in Rio de Janeiro, Heitor Villa-Lobos is the most celebrated Brazilian composer of all time due to his enormous output (he wrote about 1,000 pieces) and his colorful musical language.  His work illustrates the diverse Brazilian scene and its unique vitality.  His most famous works, a cycle of nine Bachianas Brasileiras for varying instrumental combinations, marries the spirit of Brazilian folk music with that of Bach.    Ashu
