As usual, von K brings out the details and the symphonic conception. The glory here is the fourth movement tempo - slow and insistent, as if the new grand scale of this symphony was designed to enable music to carry more moral weight- which of course it was,but a quicker tempo takes us further back into Mannheim Rocket territory, which this new formal departure renders unnecessary.
