The next example of homage comes from Claude Debussy. Debussy composed his 12 Etudes for Piano in 1915, making them the last important piano work he was to write before his death in 1918. The 12 Etudes are split into two volumes and are dedicated to Frederick Chopin (1810-1849) who famously composed his own two volumes of Etudes almost a century earlier. In Chopin’s volumes, one can find Etudes dedicated to certain intervals: thirds, sixths and octaves. Debussy composed Etudes dedicated to these intervals as well, but in his first volume, one can also find an Etude dedicated to fourths – “Pour les Quartes.”   Yevgeny Yontov
