In Robert Schumann’s song Widmung, we return to the wedding ceremony in its own right. Widmung is the first song of Schumann’s song cycle Myrthen (1840), which was the composer’s wedding gift for his bride Clara Wieck. The song is an outright musical expression of his spontaneous emotions for his wife-to-be. Liszt’s transcription of the song was made as early as 1848.        Elina Viljanen
